If you are missing one or more teeth, a dental bridge can effectively restore your smile and maintain your oral health. A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic device, meaning it is securely anchored and nonremovable. This restoration is designed to fill the gap created by missing teeth, using adjacent natural teeth or dental implants as support.
The Dental Bridge Process
The process of getting a dental bridge typically involves two visits to our office. During the first visit, Dr. Karey Kusuhara will prepare the abutment teeth, which are the neighboring teeth that will support the bridge. These teeth are reshaped to accommodate the dental crowns that will anchor the bridge. Impressions of your teeth are then taken to create a custom bridge that fits seamlessly into your smile. While your permanent bridge is being fabricated, a temporary bridge will be placed to protect the exposed teeth and gums.
On your second visit, the temporary bridge is removed, and your new, custom-made bridge is carefully fitted and adjusted to ensure a proper bite and comfort. The bridge is then permanently cemented into place, restoring your ability to chew, speak and smile with confidence.
Dental bridges offer numerous benefits, including:
- Restored Functionality: Dental bridges enable you to eat and speak comfortably, restoring the normal function of your mouth.
- Preventing Tooth Movement: By filling the gap left by missing teeth, bridges prevent neighboring teeth from shifting out of alignment.
- Enhanced Appearance: Custom bridges are designed to match the color, shape and size of your natural teeth, enhancing your overall smile.
- Improved Oral Health: Bridges help maintain the structure of your face and jaw, preventing the sunken appearance that can result from tooth loss.
- Durability: With proper care, dental bridges are durable and can last many years, providing a long-term solution to missing teeth.
We will work closely with you to determine if a dental bridge is the best option for your specific needs. Our goal is to ensure you leave with a restored smile that looks natural and feels comfortable.
